Published by lockbumping at 12:10 am under Uncategorized Edit This

If you have never seen lock bumping in action then check out this link Lock Bumping . I have been writing about lock bumping for a few years now. I have seen the awareness grow to what it is today. In the 1970’s lock-smiths from Denmark discovered that they could open the most popular door lock just by tapping on it with a specially made key. This key as it has come to be is called a lock bumping key or simply bump key. The lock bumping key is basically a blank key for what ever manufacture lock it is filed down to the keys lowest point where it will still move the pins in the lock.  Look at the normal house key compared to the filed down lock bumping key House Key vs Lock Bumping Key

When this lock bumping key is whacked with a hammer, screw driver or any blunt object then the key is forced into the lock at such a fast rate that is pushes all the pins in the lock up for a split second at the same time. At that point when all pins are up the tumbler in the lock is then able to turn and open. The whacking or hitting of the key is where the term bumping comes from. With over 90% of the doors in America using this pin tumbler type lock then you realize just how big this problem is. The internet has basically let the cat out of the bag on this one. There are many sites out there that sell lock bumping keys. All you have to do is look at the lock that you want to bump an find out the name of it. Then search online for that spefic manufacture’s lock bumping key and you will find it. It is just absolutely amazing how easy it it. Please check out this lock bumping public website  that I put together to inform people of this problem. There are some telling videos of lock bumping in action.
